1979, Siófok

Henrik Martin is a painter and sculptor who graduated from the Department of Painting of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2004. He experiences his work as a spiritual practice, in which he seeks answers to the most fundamental questions of existence: Who am I? What is the world? What is reality?

His art draws inspiration from both Western and Eastern metaphysics; in his own words, his works are objects and sensory dimensions that transcend ordinary perception. The central theme of his work is the transcendence of existence and individuality, which he believes are a prerequisite for a deeper understanding of reality.

His ideas are developed through the study of topics such as outer space, the gaze, the eyes as windows to the inner self, and perhaps the most important organs of perception of the outside world, the figure of Buddha, and his interests also focus on phenomena and methods such as astrometry, reflections, or four-dimensional geometry. His creative practice combines rational thinking and intuitive creativity – it is an approach to unraveling the mysteries of existence, a quest for a deeper understanding of the individual and the universe: it is a continuous artistic search for forms to express the unthinkable, the intangible. As he put it: 'The main focus of my artistic activity is the search for elements that evoke the idea of eternity.'

Henrik Martin has been regularly participating in national and international solo and group exhibitions since 2000. He has been a member of the Studio of Young Artists Association since 2010, a Derkovits Fellow since 2014, and is currently a student at the Doctoral School of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. His works can be found in private collections in Hungary, in the Rómer Flóris Museum of Art and History in Győr, in the collection of the House of Arts in Veszprém, and can be viewed in public spaces.
