Martin Henrik: HIERON — The Hall of Consciousness
for the opening of his exhibition entitled Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 6 p.m..
Opened by: Róbert Horváth, religious philosopher
Who am I? What is the world? What is reality? These, that is, the most fundamental questions about existence, are at the heart of the research of Martin Henrik, who sees art as a spiritual practice and the works themselves as the condensation of exploratory knowledge into concrete objects.
From this process of cognition, they materialize and open space into it, in fact, they appear as the space Hieronpaintings and sculptures now on display in the exhibition. Hieron is the symbol of quadrangular space, the all-encompassing nature of Consciousness. The original meaning of the Greek temple is the interior of a quadrangular mass that accommodates the statue of the god. This is where the reality of the mystery of existence opens up — this space itself is identified with the supranational reality of the mystery of existence.
To edit the geometry of the paintings, Martin set up postulates that help to preserve the spatial effect on the flat image surface. The material of the sculptures is volcanic rock. By grinding the dark gray andesite, it sets different levels of tone, so that the planes projected on the sculptural body surfaces are separated not only in space, but also in hue. From a formal point of view, Martin considers abstraction as a point of connection between Kazimir Malevich, Josef Albers and Tony Robbin, among others, while in terms of a purely intellectual base he is related to Lajos Szelényi and Sándor Molnár.
